FAWNL: Huddersfield Town Women 6-2 Hull City Ladies

Huddersfield Town Women's Manager Ashley Vickers

Huddersfield Town Women hit six goals for the second successive game last night as they beat fellow Yorkshire side Hull City Ladies 6-2 in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.

Town found themselves three goals to the good by half-time thanks to a brace from Lucy Sowerby and a goal from Captain Kate Mallin in front of the Stafflex Arena crowd.

Hull pulled a goal back shortly after the break however Huddersfield's three goal cushion was restored within a minute as Charlotte Newsham made it 4-1.

Town hit a further two goals in the final ten minutes courtesy of Sarah Danby and Ellie White before Katie Thompson scored her second of the night for the visitors to make it 6-2.

The result means Huddersfield sit in pole position in the division with seven points from their first three games.

After last night's victory Town Manager Ashley Vickers said: "It’s actually mixed emotions but that may be just because of the standards we and the players set ourselves.

"We started the game brilliantly going into an early two-nil lead but I felt we dropped our standards for the last 20 minutes of the first half. We got ourselves a third goal on the stroke of half time and it looked like a great half from the scoreline.

"We spoke about how we need to keep on top of the game but again I thought we started the second half cold and conceded early on. Our reaction was good and we dominated most of the game but again as I said we were disappointed to concede two goals."

He added: "It was a good result but not the complete performance we expect."

Next up for Town is a home game with Stoke City Ladies this Sunday (2pm).
