Blackburn Rovers Ladies 5-1 Guiseley Vixens

Guiseley Vixens Manager Ashley Thompson

Guiseley Vixens finished off their 2018-19 season with a 5-1 loss to Champions Blackburn Rovers in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division yesterday.

Rovers went ahead on five minutes thanks to a goal from Saffron Jordan in front of the Sir Tom Finney Stadium crowd. Natasha Flint doubled the advantage on 13 minutes before adding a third just after the half-hour mark.

Natasha Fenton then got on the scoresheet for the home side to send them into the break 4-0 up.

Charlotte Gill pulled a goal back for The Vixens on 65 minutes but it was Blackburn who had the final say as Jordan netted her second of the game four minutes from time.

The result means Guiseley finish the campaign in 8th place in the division.

Speaking after yesterday's game Guiseley Vixens Manager Ashley Thompson said: "The first half was a very forgettable one. We tried a new system to nullify their threats, but for a number of reasons we weren’t able to do that.

"At half time we regrouped and full credit has to go to the players. They could have thrown the towel in and accepted a thrashing, but their character showed through.

"We changed our tactics and got a lot of joy, fully deserving our goal and were the better team throughout the whole half in my opinion. The fact that we conceded in the second half is fully down to the linesman, who were again dreadful."

He added: "We can be proud of our second half performance and it’s a positive way to end the season. Considering the players we’ve lost throughout the season, we can be happy with our work in 2018/19. The amount of young players that have had first team opportunities is also a huge positive. 8th place is our highest ever finished and full credit should go to the staff and players."
