Pilkington 2-0 Steeton

Steeton Manager Roy Mason

Steeton fell to defeat in Merseyside yesterday as they lost 2-0 to Pilkington in the North West Counties League First Division North.

After a goalless first period, the home side broke the deadlock on sixty seven minutes thanks to a goal from Phil Marsh in front of the 86 spectators, before an own goal deep into stoppage time ended The Chevrons hopes of taking something from the game.

The result sees Steeton remain at the foot of the league table, four points adrift of safety,

Speaking about the match Steeton Manager Roy Mason said: "I thought that we gave a good account of ourselves and we should have been ahead at half time, but didn't take our chances and I felt we were denied a clear penalty in the opening twenty minutes.

"We had a good shape about us and it took a deflected free kick to break us down, and then a 95th minute goal to beat us when we had thrown men forward in search of a point.

"We are close to being a good side, but the lack of a goalscorer this season has really hampered us. I think our last two performances against two good sides have showed we are nearly there, it's just that little bit of quality that we are lacking in front of goal.

"We are still fighting and I think that we can turn things around given the positivity and work ethic we have within the squad."
